Looking for some real backcountry adventures? Join the MTTA Nordic Ski Patrol by attending:
All patrollers are required to attend one of these classes. This class will walk the patroller through a typical day in the backcountry, including:
|
Opening the Office |
|
Hut Operation (Propane, Stove, Electrical, Emergencies) |
|
Checking out Equipment, Trail Map Usage |
|
Visitor Interaction (Hut Rules, Lost Permits) |
|
Sno Park Procedures, Radio Usage, GPS Location |
|
Trail Grooming & Equipment |
All patrollers are also required to have a valid First Aid / CPR class certificate, and to have completed an Avalanche Training class. MTTA plans to provide both of these classes - dates are still to be determined.
MTTA uses a team of volunteers to patrol over 50 miles of
cross-crountry ski and snowshoe trails; including four rustic huts
linked by 20 miles of groomed trails. Each volunteer patrols at least
one day a month during the winter season and spends one day
each season staffing MTTA's office in Ashford.
Patrolling is a great way to regularly enjoy the system, improve your backcountry skills, and share your knowledge with others. Meet new friends and share in the camaraderie of the mountains!
Additionally, most of our patrollers learn to operate snowmobiles and groom trails.
We hope you'll join our team. If you have questions or want to signup, please contact our Ski Patrol Director.
