MountainCam Pics Tell a Story

Did You Guess Right?

In MTTA's May Newsletter, we asked you to guess when two set of MountainCam Pics were taken.   All pictures were taken from High Hut's MountainCam, which was supported by a very generous grant from REI with additional support from Whittiker Mountaineering.

The MountainCam has helped many visitors and volunteers see our backcountry conditions, both at High Hut and at the Anderson Lake trail visible from High Hut's deck.   It's pictures almost always tell a story.

The pictures and questions from the May newsletter are repeated below, along with the answers.   Did you guess right?

Question:   March 8th or April 16th? 2005 or 2006?
Answer:   April 16th, 2006.

Question:   April 16th or March 8th? 2006 or 2005?
Answer:   March 8th, 2005.

Question:   Other than the snow, what else is different in these pictures?
Answer:   We had to tilt the MountainCam up in 2006 to view the top of the snow guage!

On April 16th, 2006, the High Hut snow guage showed over 10' of consolidated snow (the season's high).   In 2005, over a month earlier in the previous year's season, there was almost no snow on the ground.   That's the story told by this set of MountainCam pictures.
