National Geographic is co-producing a Central Cascades GeoTourism MapGuide,
and our own Ed Book (EdBookPhoto.com) has nominated MTTA to be included.
You can help our chances by adding your own comments to the bottom of

Geotourism is "Tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character
of a place - its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being
of its residents."
The Central Cascades Geotourism project is highlighting the "the unique
culture, heritage, environment and scenic beauty found only in the Central
Cascades". They are looking for: spots, attractions,
businesses, activities or experiences distinctive to our town, area or region,
and authentic to the Central Cascades?. This could include:
- Remarkable natural areas and geologic features
- Rivers, lakes, mountains, volcanoes, forests, and deserts
- Distinctive wildlife habitat and notable species such as birds, mammals, or flowers
- Notable historic features, events, archeological sites, etc.
- Restored Main Street, historic local architecture, heritage sites, or museums
- Pow wows, parades, festivals, or ceremonies
- Important transportation routes
- Distinctive social/cultural experiences
- Food and drink; local agricultural products/farmers markets; local restaurants
- Handicrafts, fine arts, photography, local studios, gallery, workshops
- Performing arts and unique local venues offering music, dance, or theater
- Myths, stories, and folkways
- Outstanding places to recreate outdoors
- The best hiking trails, fishing holes or whitewater rafting stretches
- Scenic routes including trails, bike routes, water trails, birding trails, and Scenic Byways
- Guided educational trips, volunteer opportunities
- Innovations and Community Support
- Community-based stewardship projects and initiatives, connections between communities
- Innovative sustainable businesses that create local jobs, preserve natural resources
